Since September 2011, the department has established a research and training laboratory of nanotechnology in railway transport, which in combination with industry laboratories – Chemotological and Mechanization and Automatisation of Handling and Construction Works performs the following research work:

  • development of friction control technologies in the “wheel-rail” contact due to the use of electric and magnetic fields;
  • study of the influence of electric and magnetic fields on the lubricating properties of oils and diesel fuels;
  • development of resource saving tools in machines based on the use of electric and magnetic fields;
  • research and development of dosed lubrication systems for rails and other elements of railways and subways;
  • research and development of dosed lubrication systems for rolling stock friction units, track machines, construction and lifting and transport machines;
  • research and development of circulating systems for lubrication of friction units of equipment and machines;
  • research of parameters and development of energy-saving purifiers of oils and fuels from mechanical impurities and water;
  • analysis of oil products;
  • research of parameters and development of low-speed high-torque hydraulic motors with the use of power hydraulic cylinders.

Also, to meet the needs of modern production, the department’s specialists perform research and development work, the result of which is the creation of new modern equipment for mechanization of loading and unloading, construction and track works:

  • vibrating machines for unloading bulk cargo from gondola cars and hopper cars;
  • stationary and mounted vibrating devices and drilling and milling machines for loosening frozen cargo in gondola cars;
  • measures to prevent freezing of bulk cargo;
  • improvement of conditions for transportation of bulk cargo in winter and development of means of their unloading and storage;
  • devices for cleaning rolling stock after unloading;
  • hinged, stationary and mobile devices for closing hatches of gondola cars;
  • bunker-conveyor complexes for unloading and sorting of bulk cargoes;
  • modernization of high tracks for more efficient and safe work with bulk cargo;
  • auxiliary equipment for work with cars on high tracks;
  • devices for leveling bulk cargo in gondola cars;
  • attachments for lifting and transport machines (traverses, spreaders, load handlers for piece and bulk cargo, etc.);
  • shunting means for rolling stock movement;
  • improvement of transport and warehousing facilities of enterprises;
  • increasing the efficiency of various designs of tippers;
  • transport and warehousing logistics.

Doctoral and candidate dissertations, received patents for inventions and utility models are performed on each of the listed R&D. The results of the works were implemented in operational conditions at the enterprises of Ukrzaliznytsia, Kharkiv Metro, as well as in machine-building, mining and metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine.

In addition to research work, specialists of the department perform design work and provide science-intensive services to enterprises of Ukraine, which include:

  • design of dosed lubrication systems and circulating lubrication systems for technological equipment friction units;
  • design of stationary and mobile complexes for maintenance of hydraulic systems and lubrication systems (analysis of the current state, flushing of systems, fine cleaning of oils, collection and sorting of waste oils);
  • design of laboratories for quality control of petroleum products;
  • advanced training of personnel of enterprises in the field of resource saving;
  • development and improvement of drives of loading and unloading and track machines due to replacement of the drive “motor-reducer” on the drive with the high-torque hydraulic motor;
  • development and improvement of equipment for mechanization of loading and unloading operations.

Since 2013, the branch chemotological research laboratory periodically undergoes an audit of the state of measuring systems , which makes it possible to perform for railways and other enterprises analysis of tribological and physicochemical properties of lubricants with the issuance of an appropriate opinion.
