History of the department

The intensive introduction of new computer technologies into automated train traffic control systems has created a need for specialists in this field and has set higher educational institutions the task of training them. In 1986, the Department of Microprocessor Information and Control Systems was established at the Faculty of ATZ, which became the first department of this direction in the University of Railway Transport of Ukraine. Graduation of electrical engineers from microprocessor systems was carried out until 1999. In order to deepen the training of electrical engineers of railway transport in computer technology, the department was merged in the same year with the Department of Automation and Telemechanics. The joint department was named “Automation and computer information control systems” and prepared graduates in the specialty “Automation and automation in transport” (7.092507) and specialization “Computer information control systems” (7.092507.2). Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor G.I. Zagariy was elected the head of this department.
In 2004, an independent department of “Specialized Computer Systems” was separated from the Department of Automation and Computer Information Control Systems. Professor G.I. Zagariy became the founder of the department and its head. The department prepares bachelors, specialists and masters in the specialization “Computer Information and Control Systems” and in the specialty “Specialized Computer Systems” (7.091503). Graduates of this specialty are needed by various railway and metro companies to develop and implement information and management systems for railway transport facilities, which are used in depots, information and statistical centers, stations, mobile units, research institutes, etc. Such systems must use computer networks, separate workstations, industrial PCs, programmable controllers and related software.
