The Department of History and Linguistics was established in 2016.
The department is headed by the candidate of philological sciences, associate professor Lesya Bliznyuk.
The department consists of 12 teachers, among them 3 candidates of philological sciences, have the rank of associate professor, 4 candidates of historical sciences, have the rank of associate professor, 4 senior teachers.
The Department of History and Linguistics teaches the following subjects: “Contemporary Ukrainian Literary Language”, “Ukrainian Language (for Professional Purpose)”, “History of Ukraine”, “History of Ukrainian Culture”, “History of Ukraine and Ukrainian Culture”, “Russian as foreign “,” Business Russian language “,” Political science “,” History of railway transport “.
The teaching work of the department is closely connected with the educational activity. Students and teachers take an active part in scientific and methodological seminars of the University and other universities of Kharkiv, publish articles in collections of scientific papers, hold roundtables on topical issues of linguistics, professional terminology, local lore, excursions to places of interest and museums and cities.
Each year, with the support of the department, full-time students participate in competitions of Ukrainian language and literature experts. Shevchenko and P. Yatsyk, inter-university and All-Ukrainian subject competitions in Russian as a foreign language, in other competitions and competitions.
The historical circle is active. University students are pleased to participate in the work of the intellectual club “What? Where? When?”.
The research work of the department is carried out in accordance with the plan of scientific activity of the Educational-scientific center of humanitarian education of UkrURT and includes research of problems of semantics and stylistics of scientific texts, professional railway terminology, research in the field of history and archeology.
Since 2017, teachers of the Linguistics Section have been working on the certification committee to determine the level of fluency in the Ukrainian language for persons applying for positions of civil workers.
The Department of History of Linguistics maintains close links with the departments of “Ukrainian Language” of Kharkiv National Pedagogical University. Skovoroda, “Ukrainian and Latin language” of the National University of Pharmacy, “Russian language for foreign students” of Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics, “Russian and Ukrainian language” of the National Medical University. This is of positive importance, first of all, for the advanced training of teachers of these departments, confirmed by scientific publications, participation in international conferences, scientific seminars, open lectures, etc.
