History of scientific research of the department of cars
Significant research was performed by Professor PV Shevchenko on improving the reliability of the press connection of the axle of the wheel pair of cars with the wheel hub. At the level of the doctoral dissertation the work “Development of a design and calculation of durability of hollow car axles” was executed.
A significant contribution to the improvement of the hinge units of the brake system and the air-conducting brake line was made in the 60’s by associate professor M.F. Feldman. Under his leadership, IV Antonov and KI Research on the possibility of using hydraulic anti-union autoregulators on rolling stock was carried out.
In 1964, a unique research laboratory “Photoelasticity” was created at the department, where it became possible to solve complex problems of increasing the strength of parts and components of cars and other structures. For wagons, research was performed for heavy engineering and car-building plants. Studies of the polarization-optical method of the strength of the cylinder-piston group of engines were performed, as well as the regularity of the elastic state and the strength of the gas turbine blades for the Kharkiv Turbine Plant were checked. Actively worked and organized the work of the laboratory “Photoelasticity” Associate Professor of “Theoretical Mechanics” J.B. Волкович.
Students who had a penchant for research and then joined the ranks of scientific staff of the research laboratory were widely involved in the scientific work of the department.
Experienced manufacturers, former graduates of the department appear at the department: V.S. Fomenko, OG Milasic, VV Поляков, Д.А. Дубяга, С.І. Nechvoloda, MK Grebyonkin.
As a result of active work at the department of scientific school, in 1966 he defended his doctoral dissertation GP Andreev, then rector of the Ukrainian Correspondence Polytechnic Institute. Candidate’s dissertations were defended in 1968 by V.V. Shevchenko, in 1971 – AP Горбенко, А.О. Radzikhovsky, MV Korenivsky, in 1975 – VG Chernysh, in 1977 – EV Fedorets and VV Novikov, in 1978 – VS Ждамаров.
Later, as successors of the scientific direction of Professor PV Shevchenko, defended the dissertations of SI Nechvolod (1984), ID Borzilov (1990), MK Grebyonkin (1994).
Scientific research of the department was conducted in the form of economic contract and state budget works, the leaders of which were mainly teachers of the department. The annual volume of economic contract work amounted to 40-50 thousand rubles. The Kryukivsky, Uralsky and Stakhanovsky car-building plants, the Main Department of Carriage Economy of the Ministry of Railways of the USSR were stable customers of economic contract works. A staff of researchers was created to perform economic contract work. EV Lukina, ID Borzilov, LM Kulik, VV Malovichko, and others worked as researchers. As a result of research work, many researchers defended their dissertations and then joined the ranks of teachers.
After the formation of the State Administration of Railway Transport, the specialists of the department took an active part in solving urgent problems of the railway industry. Thus, the department took part in the state program “Development of measures to reduce the wear of the pair” wheel-rail “. Teachers of the department took an active part in the work of the scientific and methodological commission of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine in the field of “Railway Transport”, the Technical Committee of Ukraine for Standardization in Railway Transport, the Scientific and Technical Council of Ukrzaliznytsia.
With the direct participation of teachers of the department on the basis of the car depot “Osnova” was conducted a branch school of excellence to equip the car fleet with modernized axle bearings with polyamide separators.
Recently, the department under the leadership of Professor IE Martynov conducts research to improve the reliability of axle boxes of cars by improving the design and implementation of modern technologies for diagnosing the technical condition (Trufanova AV, Petukhov VM, Ravlyuk VG , Shovkun VO). Professor ID Borzilov is working on improving the system of technical maintenance of cars to increase the efficiency of their use. The research of associate professor SI Nechvoloda, development of measures to reduce the intensity of wear of parts of running gear of cars – associate professor AP Gorbenko is devoted to the issue of modernization of the brake system of freight cars. On creation of modern means of technical diagnostics and system of acoustic control of wheel pairs under the direction of the senior lecturer Bondarenko VV the senior lecturer works. Skurikhin DI Research of associate professor Viznyak RI and Lovskaya AA is devoted to ensuring the safety of cars in the international rail-water service.
In these areas of research, the department works closely with the Main Department of Carriage, Main Passenger Department, Main Department of Suburban Passenger Transportation of Ukrzaliznytsia, State Enterprise Ukrainian Research Institute of Carriage, Carriage Services and Passenger Services of the Main Bureau of Railways of Ukraine, project farms of Ukrzaliznytsia, PJSC “Kryukiv Carriage Plant”, “Azovmash”, PJSC “Stakhanov Carriage Plant”, OJSC “Kharkiv Bearing Plant”, as well as with many other enterprises and institutions.
The department cooperates with related departments of Moscow and St. Petersburg University of Railways, as well as with the world’s leading manufacturers of bearing units for rolling stock: the Swedish company “SKF”, the American companies “Timken” and “Brenco”. St. teacher Trufanova AV took part in the accreditation of the plant of the company “SKF” for the production of axle boxes for freight cars in Villars-Perosa (Italy), and prof. Martynov took part in the accreditation of the Brenco plant for the production of axle boxes for freight cars in St. Petersburg (USA).
The department is working on the problem of creating a new composition of materials and energy-saving environmentally friendly technologies for their manufacture. The new composition of materials and technologies of their production are aimed at replacing products made of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, the cost of which is growing every year, due to the use of gas and electricity. Scientists of the department are working to create protective coatings with specified properties for transport parts. Professor of the Department, Doctor of Technical Sciences Gevorkyan Edvin Spartakovych in 2019 became the winner of the XXI regional competition “Higher School of Kharkiv region – the best names”.
