Branch research laboratory “Movement safety” (BRL-73)

During the existence of the laboratory, research work was performed on behalf of Ukrzaliznytsia, the Ministry of Transport of Ukraine and the Social Insurance Fund of Ukraine. Among these works: development and implementation of systems and devices that increase the safety of work on the stations tracks, as well as the development and approval of regulations on labor protection in railway transport.

Research work was carried out in accordance with the Concept of the State target program for the implementation of high-speed passenger trains on railways for 2005-2015 (approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine from 31.12.2004 №979) and in accordance with the Sectoral program to improve safety, occupational health and production environment for 2001-2005 (MTU order of 26.11.2001 №822).

Research and further development of devices and systems for automatic warning of track workers are carried out. As part of these studies developed and conducted operational tests on the Southern Railway automatic warning systems for track workers and devices for automated warning of workers on track and station duty officer, both on the establishment of train or shunting route, and on the movement of rolling stock through the work area, as well as locomotive crews on the presence of workers on the route in order to increase the safety of work on the tracks of railway stations and reduce the likelihood of collisions with workers (Fig. 1).

For decades, Ukrzaliznytsia’s NTT has provided reports on the need to implement two comprehensive systems on Ukraine’s railways: the “Comprehensive System for Determining the Condition of Rolling Stock during Train Movement” and the “Comprehensive System for Determining the Condition of Infrastructure Related to Train Safety”. These reports were received by the management of Ukrzaliznytsia with interest and with a recommendation to include Ukrzaliznytsia in the plan of research works.

Laboratory works on research of tonal rail circuits and point sensors (fig. 2) with elements of intellectual processing of the information in places of its origin are also developed, improved and introduced in educational process.
