The educational process involves laboratory work and practical classes. Courses and term papers must be completed in special disciplines.

During the study, students have seen this practice:

• educational – after the second semester of study;
• technological – after the sixth semester of study;
• operational – after the eighth semester of study;
• undergraduate – after the ninth semester of study.

After completing the educational and professional program of the first stage – bachelor – students perform the defense of the thesis.
Subject to the implementation of the educational-professional program of the second stage – the educational-qualification level of master – students defend the diploma project.

Themes of diploma, as a rule, are defined by production and have a direction of increase of efficiency of systems of railway automation: safety of movement of trains, throughput, increase of level of service of devices, use of microprocessor element base and other.

The defense of diploma projects by students is carried out in the state examination commissions, which include the most experienced specialists in the field.

Since 2009, the department has been preparation and production of masters.

Teachers of the department train specialists at the faculties “Automation, Telemechanics and Communications” and “Transportation Process Management” on a full-time and part-time basis, at the Faculty of Civil Engineering – only on a full-time basis.

Leading teachers of the department are involved in conducting classes at the institute of retraining and advanced training of the university with groups of second education, masters and employees of the field undergoing advanced training.
