The Department “Automation and computer telecontrol of trains” of the Ukrainian State University of Railway Transport (UkrSURT) was founded on November 1, 1960 together with the Faculty of Automation, Telemechanics and Communications (ATC) and was the first graduate department to train railway specialists. automation of Ukraine. Initially, the department had the same name as the faculty – “Automation, Telemechanics and Communications”. In 1962, the name of the department was changed to “Automation and Telemechanics” because the department of “Transport Communications” (which at that time became the second graduating department at the faculty) stood out. The department existed under this name for 34 years.

In 1996, due to changes in the provisions of the Laws of Ukraine “On Education” and the termination of the release of specialists in the specialization “Microprocessor Information and Control Systems”, the Department of “Automation and Telemechanics” and “Microprocessor Information and Control Systems” were merged into one graduating department “Automation and computer control systems”.

In 2004, by order of the Rector of the University, two graduating departments were organized on the basis of the Department of Automation and Computer Control Systems and the department became known as “Automation and computer telecontrol of trains”.

From the beginning of its existence until 1987, the department was headed by Honored Worker of Higher Education, Honored Railwayman of the USSR, Honored Worker of Higher Education of the USSR, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Professor Mykola Kotliarenko. He, as an outstanding teacher, laid the foundations for the development of the department in teaching, methodological and research work, thus creating one of the scientific schools in the field of railway automation, which solved the problem of staffing the department with highly qualified teachers. Under his scientific guidance, 25 candidates of technical sciences were trained.

From 1987 to 1989 the head of the department became Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Hennadii Zaharii.

In connection with the separation in 1989 from the Department of Automation and Telemechanics of the Department of Microprocessor Information and Control Systems (Head Prof. Zagariy G.I.) the Head of the Department was elected Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Mykola Varbanets. From 1992 to 1996 the department was headed by Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Viktor Kustov.

In 1996, in accordance with the requirements of training specialists of a new level, the Department of Automation and Telemechanics and Microprocessor Information and Control Systems were merged into one graduating Department of Automation and Computer Control Systems. The head of the department is Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Transport Academy of Ukraine, “Honorary Worker of Transport of Ukraine” H.Zagarii.

In 2004 the head of the department became the doctor of technical sciences, professor Anatolii Boinik. His work from assistant to professor is connected with the department since 1972.

  • senior lecturer S.Tokar;
  • assistants G.Gromov, O.Shipulin and O.Kononenko.

In order to train railway automation specialists in the continuous (correspondence) form of education for the regions of Donbass and the center of Ukraine, branches of the department were organized in Kyiv (1966) and Donetsk (1968), which since 1993 have been operating in composition of individual educational institutions.

Since 1960, the department has become the only graduating department in Ukraine in the specialty 21.02.01 “Automation and telemechanics in railway transport”, the first graduation took place in 1963. Training and graduation of specialists in railway automation continues at the department to this day. In independent Ukraine, the specialty is called 092507 “Automation and automation in transport”. From 1992 to 1999, the department also trained and graduated specialists in microprocessor information and control systems.
