Training of specialists in economic specialties in the Kharkov Institute of Transport Engineers (such was the name of the modern UkrDuZT), is carried out for a long time.
The history of the department dates back to 1935, when it was founded as a department of “Economics of Transport” by Professor M.V. Tomilin. From 1936 to 1944, the Department was headed by Professor V. M. Orlov, Doctor of Economics.
During 1944-1977, the Department was headed by Professor T.M. Tuchkevich, Doctor of Economics. From 1980 to 1997, Professor I.G. Boyko was the head of the department. In 1997 – 2001 years Doctor of Economics, Professor V.L. Dykan headed the department, and since 2001 the post of head of the department was held by candidate of technical sciences, associate professor N.M. Kolesnikova. From 2005 to the present time the department is headed by professor, doctor of economics L.O. Pozdnyakova.
During the next decades, the department employed highly qualified teachers, famous economists of transport and industry T.M. Tuchkevich, A.M. Bleiz, M.I. Silaev, V.M. Orlov, I.G.Boyko, E.M. Isikov, O.I. Yakovlev, T.P. Antonova, M.O. Moiseeva, Y.M. Yurchenko, M.D. Zherdev, L.O. Pozdnyakova, O.G. Deineka, V.L. Dikan, N.M. Kolesnikova, S.A. Pogasy, O.I. Zorina and other specialists.
The faculty of the department was gradually replenished by young graduates who later became candidates of science and associate professors, namely: V.I. Kudelya, V.O. Kotik, T.O. Timofeeva, V.V. Kotik, V. G. Yakovenko, N.V. Gritsenko, N. G. Chelyadinova, O. M. Shirokova, Y.V. Miroshnichenko, I.V. Motzna, E.M. Gulai and others.
The process of expanding and strengthening economic ties between Ukraine and the states of the world, in particular in the transport industry actively began to occur since then, faced with the problem of lack of specialists in human resources and labor economics first bachelor’s level, and business administration second master’s level.
Socio-economic situation in the country and further predetermined the expediency of qualitatively new approaches to the specialists, who were trained by the Department, because the processes of gradual integration into the EU required training the latter with the latest criteria and standards in accordance with the mechanisms of the Bologna process. As a result, according to the decisions of the Academic Council of the Academy, in 2005 the department was divided into the departments of “Management of foreign economic activity in transport” and “Economics of railway transport”.
Since 2005, the department held a permanent defense of thesis under the guidance of Doctor of Economics, Professor L.O. Pozdnyakova such teachers as: V.I. Kudelya, V.O. Kotik, T.O. Timofeeva, V.V. Kotik, V. G. Yakovenko, N.V. Gritsenko, N.G. Chelyadinova, O.M. Shirokova, I.V. Motzna, O.M. Zhuravleva, K.B. Khimyak, N.S. Reshetilo, L.S. Kovalevich, V.V. Manevchuk, O.L. Slipchenko, Y.V. Kravchenko and under the supervision of the candidate of economic sciences, associate professor M.D. Zherdev defense of candidate dissertations O.S. Gulay and Y.V. Miroshnichenko took place.
In 2014, in accordance with the decision of the Academic Council of the Academy, the department was renamed to “Economics, Business and Personnel management in Transport”.
In total, during the existence of the department, 3,815 engineers-economists of communication paths and managers-administrators were trained.
Today, the department trains specialists in two areas of training. Now the department graduates highly qualified, professional young specialists for transport, as well as for industries and enterprises of all areas of activity at the educational level of “Bachelor” and “Master”.
