History of the department

The Department of Electrical Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics (then under the name of the Department of Electrical Equipment of Rolling Stock), as an independent educational and scientific unit, was formed in 1992 on the basis of the Department of Locomotives after its reorganization.

The department “Electrical equipment of rolling stock” received from the department “Locomotives” classrooms and laboratories, a scientific branch laboratory and a team of teachers. All this became the basis for the independent formation and further development of the department. Therefore, the history of the ASET department begins not from the moment of its separation into an independent unit, but from the time of the creation of UkrSUZhT (then KhIIT). And this is really so, because along with the birth of KIIT back in 1930, training of specialists for railways began at the Rolling Stock Department (hereinafter referred to as the Locomotives Department), headed by Honored Professor Petr Matveyevich Mukhachev.

Over the years, the department has repeatedly changed its name. So on March 5, 1935, by order No. 88 of the head of KhIIT, the department was renamed into “Rolling stock and traction of trains.” The “Group of Railway Electrification” is added to the department. In October 1936, the department was divided into two, which were named “Rolling stock” and “Traction of trains and electrification of railways.”

According to the staff form of KhIIT since September 1, 1956, the “Rolling stock” department was renamed into the “Locomotives” department, which became the leading graduating department of the mechanical faculty. From that time to 1992, the department was headed by: associate professor, Ph.D. A.I. Shede; professor, doctor of technical sciences T.F. Kuznetsov; professor, Ph.D. A.M. Tarasov; Associate Professor, Ph.D. V.M. Polyakov; Associate Professor, Ph.D. V.F. Golovko.

By order of the rector № 34 of 08.06.1992, the departments “Locomotives” and “Operation and repair of rolling stock” were reorganized into producing departments – “Electrical equipment of rolling stock” and “Operation and repair of rolling stock”. The department “Electrical equipment of rolling stock” has become a graduate in the specialty “Electric locomotives and electric trains”. In 1994, the department “Electrical equipment of rolling stock” by order of the rector No. 6 dated December 15, renamed the department “Electric traction systems”. The department began to train bachelors, specialists, masters in the specialty “Electric transport”.

From 1992 to 2000, the head of the department was an academician of the Transport Academy, professor, doctor of technical sciences. M.V. Panasenko. At this time, the main staff of the department’s teachers was formed, including professors, Doctor of Technical Sciences. S.P. Kalinichenko, Yu.I. Gusevsky, Y.V. Shcherbak and associate professors, Ph.D. S.P. Netyuhaylo, V.M. Polyakov, L.Yu. Ustimenko, S.I. Yatsko.

History of the department From 2000 to 2002, the head of the department was Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences. O. N. Sinchuk.
According to the decision of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated April 11, 2000, a new specialty “Electrical systems and complexes of vehicles” was opened at the department. Within the framework of the new specialty, the training of specialists for the power supply services of railways and subways has begun.

From 2002 to 2016 the head of the department was Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences. Ya.V. Shcherbak.

History of the department In 2011, the Department of Electric Traction Systems was renamed into the Department of Automated Electric Transport Systems. In 2016, the Department of Automated Systems of Electric Transport was merged with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Electrical Machines, as a result of which the new department was named “Electrical Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics”, which was headed by Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences. M. M. Babaev.

Over the years of its existence since 1992, the department has trained and graduated more than 1500 electrical engineers for the locomotive and electrical facilities of railways, subways and enterprises of Ukraine and other CIS countries.
