Goals of the Educational Programme
Goal of the Educational Programme is to obtain knowledge, skills and abilities in the field of maintenance and repair of electric rolling stock.
A student who is studying in the specialty «Electric locomotives and electric trains» receives knowledge:
in the field of mechanical parts:
- design of the mechanical part (spring suspension of the traction drive, bogies);
- the main trends and directions of development and modernization of mechanical structures of prototypes of domestic and foreign electric rolling stock (vibration protection system, traction transmission system, protection system against frontal collisions);
- a special approach to the operation of the mechanical part and the influence of its state on the implementation of traction forces, smoothness of the course, dynamic loads.
- in the field of electric traction machines:
- design of DC pulsating current TM(Traction motor), brushless electric motors and their influence on the traction and braking properties of electric rolling stock;
- a special approach to the operation of TM and their impact on the performance properties of TM;
- a special approach to electromagnetic processes in TM and their relationship to mechanical loads;
- the performance criteria of TM;
- individual design of brushless traction motors and their influence on the traction and braking properties of electric rolling stock.
- in the field of automated control systems for electric rolling stock:
- purpose, operating conditions, functional and structural diagrams, operating principle and design relationships for determining the parameters of elements, nodes, blocks and the automatic control system as a whole;
- use methods of analysis and calculation of stability, transients and quality of regulation in automatic control systems of electric rolling stock, as well as their synthesis;
- the principle of operation and features of automatic control systems for electric rolling stock with brushless traction engines and high-speed ground transport;
- composition and operating principle of automatic control systems based on microprocessors.
- in the field of electric traction equipment of electric rolling stock:
- operating conditions, theory of operation of the main electrical equipment of electric rolling stock;
- design of the main types of electric traction devices and performance characteristics;
- apply technical condition diagnostics skills during operation and maintenance of electric traction devices.

- in the field of mechanical parts of electric rolling stock:
- to use the methodology for the evaluation structures of the chassis from the point of view of satisfaction of operational requirements and safety requirements;
- use methods for monitoring and evaluating the stress state of various elements of running gear, ways to restore their technical condition. in the field of electric traction machines:
- apply skills to assess the impact of the characteristics of the operation of TM on their performance;
- apply the skills to evaluate the traction and braking properties of electric rolling stock with brushless traction motors in accordance with the operating conditions;
- apply skills to find the causes of TM failures and restore their functionality;
- apply skills to assess the impact of new design features of the mechanical part on dynamic properties and indicators of dynamic qualities. in the field of automated control systems for electric rolling stock:
- apply the skills of using automated microprocessor control systems for diagnostics of electric rolling stock devices;
- apply adjustment, maintenance and repair of automatic control systems of electric rolling stock. in the field of electric traction equipment of electric rolling stock:
- apply technical condition diagnostics skills during operation and maintenance of electric traction devices.
