The Department of Transport Systems and Logistics was established in 2011. The first to head the department was Dr. Tech. Sciences, Professor Alyoshinsky Eugene Semenovich. This lecturer has about 200 publications, including about 110 scientific and 50 scientific and methodological works, since 2016 an academician of the Transport Academy of Ukraine (TAU).

In September 2016, the Department of Transport Systems and Logistics was headed by Dr. Tech. Sciences, Prof., Honored Worker of Transport of Ukraine, Academician of the Transport Academy of Ukraine Lomotko Denis Viktorovich.

The department trains EQL students – “Bachelor” and “Master” in the specialty 275 – Transport Technology (curriculum – Organization of transportation and transport management, Transport Service and Logistics.

The main tasks of the department for the training of logisticians are to provide the following skills and competencies:

ensuring the transportation of goods
minimization of freight costs
planning optimal routes
search and selection of freight forwarders
supply planning
concluding agreements and contracts for the transportation of goods, purchase and sale of goods
organization of customs procedures
ensuring the optimal delivery scheme for intermodal transportation
consolidation of goods in the delivery process
organization of warehousing
coordination of information interaction with the shipper and the consignee.
The department together with the Educational and Scientific Institute for Retraining and Advanced Training  since 2014 is one of the main ones that started training masters under the program “Master of Infrastructure and Operation of High-Speed ​​Railway Traffic” of the EU project TEMPUS.

The department has a scientific school of Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor D.V. Lomotko . The main activities of scientific schools are the organization of international transportation and customs procedures in transport; rationalization of the functioning of the transport system and logistics activities; organization of multimodal transportation and interaction of modes of transport; rationalization of the complex of passenger transportation by rail; creation of general scientific bases of formation of transport systems.

In 2015, for the first time at the department, specialty 05.22.01 received the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences Anna Alexandrovna Primachenko, defending a dissertation on “Improvement of passenger technology in non-stop traffic.” The teacher has 66 publications, 53 of which are scientific in nature, 2 patents, 2 copyright certificates and 9 works of educational and methodological nature, which are included in the scientometric databases recommended by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

In 2016, under the leadership of prof. D.V. Lomotko received the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences Assistant Kovaleva Oksana Vladimirovna, author of more than 25 scientific and educational works. The topic of the dissertation is “Improvement of the railway transport process by providing cargo owners with rolling stock of the required commercial suitability”.

The staff of the department has published about 400 scientific articles, created more than 40 abstracts of lectures and methodological developments, received 7 patents. In 2014, 2015, 2016, 2019 and 2020, students of the Department of Transport Systems and Logistics have repeatedly won prizes at national and city competitions and contests of student works.
