The area of all classrooms for the students of the Specialty “Heat and Power Engineer” totals 4014 sq.m, among which the laboratories – 917.6 sq.m (717.6 sq.m is intended for learning laboratories), the areas of affiliated units in the locomotive depot Osnova and the V.O. Malyshev Transport Machine Building Plant of Kharkiv are 600 sq.m each; the University’s total area of classrooms and learning laboratories is 2096.4 sq.m. The average area per student amounted to about 18.5 sq.m. The following well-equipped laboratories are used for training highly-qualified specialists:
Laboratory of Thermodynamics and Gasdynamics (32 sq. m); Laboratory of Heat and Mass Transfer (32 sq. m); Laboratory of Thermal Measurements and Automation (32 sq. m); Laboratory of High-temperature Installations (45.6 sq .m); Laboratory of Diesel Engines and Compressors (380 sq. m) with 5 diesel testing benches and great variety of measuring equipment; Testing bench of a solid fuel of a pyrolisis boiler and a vertical water tube boiler ДКВР 2.5/13; Laboratory of Environment Protection; Equipped lecture hall (56 sq. m).
The affiliated units of the Department are equipped with various industrial heat-consuming installations and laboratory equipment intended for the research into the diesel engines; they have design bureaus, boiler, distillate, and chemical laboratories, rheostat and fuel laboratories, and sand dryer rooms.
