The Department of Heat Engineering, Heat Engines, and Energy Management trains specialists in Specialty 144 “Heat and Power Engineering” and offers training in Bachelor’s and Master’s Academic Programs on heat engineering and energy management.
The department prepares specialists who can be involved in the activity of designing, developing, and professional servicing of heat and power equipment both on railway transport and in other industries.
The academic programs include a deep study of heat-power equipment, in particular: boilers; power equipment with internal combustion engines; heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems; heating networks; heating equipment of furnaces, compressor stations, thermal and electric stations. The graduates can carry out research and development, operate and maintain such equipment. They are ready to solve problems on energy saving, fuel and power consumption, ecological control and lower emission of pollutants. That’s why a lot of them work at different railway divisions and in other industries.
Since 1992, at the suggestion of Ukrzaliznytsia, the curriculum was complemented with several educational components (disciplines) on environmental protection. Thus, at present the students are also trained in ecological studies. According to these changes the educational outcome includes the ability to develop efficient ways for reducing harmful substances emitted by energy installations of railway transport. Such specialists are in demand not only at power departments, but also at ecological departments of railway transport and in other industries.
