RESEARCH LABORATORY “HIGHER FUEL EFFICIENCY AND BETTER PERFORMANCE OF DIESEL TRACTION”

The research laboratory “Higher Fuel Efficiency and Better Performance of Diesel Traction” was established on the basis of Ukrainian State University of Railway Transport. (Certificate № 100-220/2014).

The main research areas of the laboratory include ecological control for:
– diesel locomotives during scheduled operations (maintenance of diesel locomotives, current repairs, overhauls, innovation repairs);
– metallurgical enterprises, blacksmith shops of machine-building enterprises; and
– control of pollutants near diesel and rail car depots, car garages, boiler houses, and around thermal power plants and industrial enterprises.
The environmental situation in Ukraine and in the whole world has worsened during recent years. The reasons of it are well known, but the most important of them is lack of responsibility regarding the environment. And standardized pollution taxes can be one of its solutions, when tax revenues can be used not for eliminating the consequences from hazardous emissions, but for measures to reduce or even prevent them. The research conducted in the laboratory contributes to solving this problem by determining the actual values of pollutants emitted by diesel installations and reducing them to standardized values.

The laboratory is staffed by highly-qualified specialists who have an experience in conducting tests and measurements in the field.

The laboratory is properly equipped for the measuring activity. Among the installations are portable gas analyzer and smoke meter for measuring the concentration of oxygen, nitrogen oxide and dioxide, carbon oxide and dioxide, sulfur dioxide, opacity, and hydrocarbons.

The laboratory “Higher Fuel Efficiency and Better Performance of Diesel Traction” of Ukrainian State University of Railway Transport appeals for cooperation with all those interested in observation, research and arrangement of protocols for transport diesel facilities and other production units which emit harmful substances.
