History of the department

History of Department of Legal Support and Transport Administration begins with the date of decision of Academic Council of UkrDUZT from May 31, 2021, protocol № 5 and adopted on the basis of this decision, order of Rector (prof. S. V. Panchenko) № 100 from June 23, 2021 about establishment of the department.

History of teaching legal disciplines should begin since June 12, 1930, when Kharkiv Operational and Traction Institute of Railway Transport was established on the basis of Resolution № 19/672 of People’s Commissars Council of the USSR (since 1933 Kharkiv Institute of Railway Engineers until 1993), in some academic disciplines, in some topics certain legal issues were considered.

Introduction of teaching legal disciplines in UkrDUZT began in the 70s of the twentieth century, formulation of necessity for teaching is of special attention to legal education.

At that time there was no specialized department at the university. Teaching of legal disciplines started at former Department of Labor Protection of Transportation Management Faculty, the only discipline was “Fundamentals of State and Law”.

In this discipline teacher of that time was required to provide students with a minimum level of knowledge about law and state and a minimum set of skills to apply law in everyday life. This is knowledge of forms and functions of state, peculiarities of labor relations, rights and responsibilities of citizens, etc.

With the change of political regime, intensification of social processes, breakdown of economic relations, necessity to study legal disciplines became more relevant.

In 2002, at the established Department of Management of Foreign Economic Activity and Law, now Department of Management and Marketing, Faculty of Economics of the university, a part of Legal Specialization Department for the first time was established.

It was since 2002 when branch legal disciplines “Land Law”, “Commercial Law”, “Financial Law” and complex legal disciplines “Legal Issues of Managerial Activity”, “Intellectual Property and Contract Law”, “Contract Law” have been actively introduced into educational process.

As a result of reorganization of Department of Management of Foreign Economic Activity and Law, some teachers of law were transferred to Department of Economic Theory which was called Economic Theory and Law Department (heads of the department: PhD, prof. O. D. Borovich, PhD, assoc. prof. N. M. Kameneva).

On June 23, 2021, Department of Legal Support and Transport Administration was established.

The department teaches legal disciplines in the relevant areas of training of higher education in Ukrainian State University of Railway Transport.
