Scientific activity direction:

A specialist in the field of linguistics who has researched the contextual and discursive aspects of joking in the modern communicative space of Great Britain and the United States. The significance of scientific activity is determined by the fact that, on the basis of a comprehensive approach to the joke as a folklore text and speech genre, its status was determined within the proposed new direction of linguistics – the functional and communicative stylistics of the text. She proved that a joke is a situational-verbal unit of a non-serious mode of communication, which is a means of speech influence on the communicative behavior of communication participants. She developed a method of identifying the techniques of creating the comic in a joke as a form of linguistic creative thinking of a person on the basis of the basic cognitive mechanism – comic incongruity, which arises as a result of violation of norms at various levels of humorous communication. Revealed the essence of the humorous variety of discourse, which is distinguished by the nature of communication, which determines the possibility of structuring types of discourse and reveals incongruence at the discursive level. She proved that the humorous type of discourse is characterized by convergence and irradiation, the presence of expressive and evaluative language and speech units, which are a means of intensifying the impact on the addressee’s emotions. For the first time, she established text-compositional parameters and pragmatic stylistic potential of the text of a narrative joke (joke), including markers of anthropocentricity, areas of their application, functions, role in creating a comic effect; highlighted the intertextual nature of the text of the anecdote. She substantiated that the specificity of the anecdote as a human text is that the game manipulations cover not only the traditional levels of its organization, but also take the form of a language game in the intertextual space.
