Educational and methodical work of the department
The department performs scientific and methodical work. In the last few years, the department has developed and published typical and working programs in foreign languages and business English for students of all specialties, including modular assessment of the knowledge, established textbooks for each section of the course, educational software package on a PC.

The textbook is compiled in accordance with the foreign language program for extra-linguistic universities. The purpose of the textbook is to prepare future railway transport specialists for professionally-oriented oral and written communication. Effective language acquisition is provided by a system of communicative exercises that stimulate students’ interest and their creative activity. The text material of the textbook provides a lot of information on the history, the most important aspects of the work and trends in the development of railways in Ukraine and other countries. The texts are based on modern materials of specialized British and American periodicals, for example: International Railway Journal, European Rail Outlook, Railway Gazette and Railvolution. Particular attention is paid to the study of grammar as a basis for understanding and speaking in English. The first part is recommended as a basic course for students of higher and secondary educational institutions of railway transport in the first year of study. It can also be used by those who have a technical education and want to improve their English language skills.

The textbook is recommended as a basic course in the discipline “Business Foreign Language” for students of higher educational institutions of railway transport. The purpose of the textbook is to teach future professionals in the field of railway transport to use English in professional activities, which involves the development of oral and written communication skills in business; improving the skills of translation of the English original text; formation of bases of work with business documentation in English; acquaintance with the ethics and structure of language communication in the framework of discussion, negotiations, presentations, etc. The textbook consists of 8 lessons, the topics of which cover almost all the most important aspects of business communication: from the first steps of the graduate related to job search and interview, to business negotiations, contracts, organization of companies to promote goods and services, filling the accompanying transport documentation, customs procedures, etc. The textbook is designed for students of transport higher education institutions studying the course “Business Foreign Language”, and is also recommended for businessmen, employees of transport commercial structures to improve the training of railway transport specialists and further self-study.

The textbook is compiled in accordance with the foreign language program for extra-linguistic universities. The purpose of the textbook is to develop students of economic specialties of railway universities’ communication skills at the colloquial and professional levels, as well as preparation for work with the original economic literature as a source of information. Great importance in the textbook is given to the study of grammar as a basis for understanding and speaking in English. Grammar exercises are differentiated according to the degree of complexity, taking into account different levels of student training, they are designed for written and oral practice in the auditorium or self-study. The textbook includes six sections and covers the following topics: history of railway transport, basics of economics, demand and suggestion, factors of production, management and economics of railway transport. It is recommended as a basic course for students of economic specialties of transport higher education institutions in the first and second years of study.
