DEPARTMENT HISTORY
The Department of Engineering Geodesy as an independent structural unit existed in 1932-1937, 1943-1959 and 1975-1985. It was headed by Professor Ye.Kh. Kaplenko (1932-1937 and 1945-1959), Associate Professor M.L. Filakhtov (1943-1945), Associate Professor Yu.V. Shcherbina (1975-1985). During the period of 1937-1943, the Department of Engineering Geodesy was part of Railways Department, and in 1954-1975 it was part of the Department of Survey, Design and Construction of Railways. This Department and Department of Track and Track Industry were established in 1953 as a result of Railways Department division.
Ph.D. in Engineering Science, Associate Professor I.O. Boltenko, a Dean of the Construction Department of Civil Engineering headed the Department until 1957 and was appointed to the position of the Head of the Department of Survey, Design and Construction of Railways.
In following years, the Heads of the Department were Associate Professor V.M. Kaliekin (1957-1959), Professor Ye.Kh. Kaplenko (1959-1969), Associate Professor H.V. Moskalenko (1968-1971), Associate Professor I.P. Cherkashyn (1971-1974), Associate Professor L.P. Vatulia (1974-1975 and 1989-1997), Associate Professor V.A. Sarkisov (1978-1989).
In 1997, when the Department of Survey, Design and Construction of Railways was reformed, its academic staff consisted of 16 Lecturers, including 12 Candidate of Sciences, Associate Professors and 4 teaching and support staff. One part of the specialists was transferred to the Department of Track and Track Industry, the second part – to the Department of Building Materials, Constructions and Structures. Since September 2002, the entire staff of the former Department of Survey, Design and Construction of Railways has been transferred to the Department of Track and Track Industry.
Since March 2005, the Department has established the Section “Design, Technology and Organization of Railway Building and Reconstruction”, headed by V.H. Manuilenko.

On 31.08.2018, by Rector’s Order (No. 118) of the Ukrainian State University of Railway Transport, the Department of Surveys and Design of Communication Routes, Geodesy and Land Regulation was established.
