The main goal of the Educational and Scientific Center for Humanitarian Education is organizing and coordinating educational work at the University, implementing the concept of humanization and humanitarization of education in UkrSURT. The Educational and Scientific Center for Humanitarian Education includes four departments: History and Linguistics, Philosophy and Sociology, Foreign Languages, Physical Training and Sports.
Since 2017, the Department of Foreign Languages has been teaching students majoring in “Philology” in the educational program “Translation and English Language and Literature”. Students study theoretical and practical aspects of scientific and technical translation, intercultural and interlinguistic communication. Other departments of the Center are not graduate departments, they teach humanitarian subjects for students of all specialties and forms of study.
The main subjects taught by teachers of the Educational and Scientific Center for Humanitarian Education include history of Ukraine and Ukrainian culture, political science, history of science and technology, history and culture of English-speaking countries, business rhetoric, business technical Ukrainian, philosophy, sociology, psychology, foreign language (English, German, French), business foreign language, technical translation, practical course of English, practical course of German, theory and practice of translation (English), methods of teaching foreign languages, introduction to translation studies, introduction to the theory of intercultural communication, introduction to literary studies, history of foreign literature, linguocultural studies, basics of English phonetics, theoretical English grammar, English stylistics, history of English, Latin, physical training.
The Educational and Scientific Center for Humanitarian Education is proud of highly professional teachers and professors. Among the teachers of the Center there are 3 professors, Doctors of Sciences and 17 PhDs, as well as associate professors. Teachers of the Center conduct systematic scientific research. The Educational and Scientific Center for Humanitarian Education is working on the selection and training of researchers. In 2016, the senior lecturer of the Department of History and Linguistics K. A. Yeremeyeva defended her PhD thesis. In 2018, I. V. Tolstov was awarded the academic title of associate professor of the Department of Philosophy and Sociology. Later the same year, senior teachers of the Department of Physical Education and Sports T.V. Shepelenko and A. Ya. Yefremovadefended their PhD theses. In 2019, associate professor of the Department of history and Linguistics O. V. Kravchenkodefended her doctoral thesis.
In recent years, all teachers of the departments have completed advanced training. The main form of advanced training is the internship of teachers in other universities in Kharkiv. Many teachers constantly participate in professional scientific conferences.
The departments of the Center for Humanitarian Education conduct scientific work. In the last year, teachers and professors of the Center published 38 scientific articles in professional collections, 81 abstracts of reports at scientific conferences. Head of the Department of Philosophy and Sociology V. M. Petrushov translated the work of the philosopher Nikolay Losskiy into Ukrainian.
The teachers are also successful supervisers of students’ research work. In recent years, students have won prizes at the All-Ukrainian academic competitions in foreign languages, have been winners ofall-Ukrainian conferences, city competitions in history of Ukraine, and prize-winners of the international student scientific and technical conference. In 2019, a student of the Faculty of Transportation ProcessManagement S. Zinchukunder the scientific supervision of K. A. Yeremeyevatook second place in the regional competition of scientific papers “Gender Policy through the Eyes of Ukrainian Youth”.
Career guidance takes an important place in the activities of the departments of the Educational and Scientific Center for Humanitarian Education. During the 2019/2020 academic year, teachers of the departmentswere visiting schools under the patronage of the University in Pervomaisky, Zmiiv, Pechenegi districts of the Kharkiv region, and visited more than 20 schools in Kharkiv. Teachers of the Departments of History and Linguistics and Foreign Languages give lectures at the preparatory courses at the university where they train applicants for entrance tests in Ukrainian, history of Ukraine, and English. The regional English-language forum “Education that Overcomes Borders” has become traditional. In February 2018, students of 15 schools of the Kharkiv region and the University took part in a discussion of the problems and prospects of modern education. In the autumn 2019, the teachers of the Educational and Scientific Center for Humanitarian Education contributed to conducting the Kharkiv city championship among schoolchildren in the game “What? Where? When?”. In January 2020, teachers of the Department of History and Linguistics and the Department of Foreign Languages held seminars for school teachers of Moskovsky district. Also in January 2020, the Department of Foreign Languages held the traditional educational English-language forum “New Educational Strategies”. In January 2020, the teachers of the Department of History and Linguistics K. E. Kolesnik, L. M. Bliznyuk and K. A. Yeremeyeva held classes for students of school of the Moskovsky district to prepare for regional academic competitions in history and Ukrainian.
In 2000/2021, the Center keeps working taking into account quarantine restrictions. Students’ scientific groups, the Discussion Club of the University work remotely, while sports sections conduct trainings. During the 2020/21 academic year, events dedicated to the anniversaries of I. Karpenko-Kary, O. Dovzhenko, Lesya Ukrainka, L. Kostenko were conducted.
